OMAFA's AgMaps

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness has developed a new online resource called AgMaps. This interactive map is free to use and provides users with current and historical rural and agricultural data. It also offers various features to help users better understand their land and plan for the future.

You will be able to apply custom features such as drawing field boundaries, measure distances or areas, and mark your maps with notes, drawings and add-ons. AgMaps offers high-resolution aerial imagery, municipal and tile drainage maps, soil data, and tools to assist in managing your land. You are able to combine and layer these details onto a single map, providing a comprehensive and personalized view of your farm.

AgMaps can be utilized in your toolkit for creating a resource management strategy, an Environmental Farm Plan or carrying out a Farmland Health Checkup.

Visit ontario.ca/agmaps to see more information and use the program. Please contact The Agricultural Information Contact Centre if you have any questions at 1-877-424-1300 or via email at ag.info.omafa@ontario.ca.

Drive Away Hunger Program

We’re helping to promote Drive Away Hunger, an agriculture and food industry effort to connect the food we produce with the people who need it the most.

Food insecurity is a serious and growing issue in Canada. Over 8 million tonnes of surplus edible food is wasted in Canada yearly -– enough to feed 17 million people. (Statistic: Second Harvest Canada).

You can participate in the program through the following ways:

Donate surplus edible food: With the Second Harvest Food Rescue service, businesses with surplus food can make and track donations to non-profit organizations in their communities. Donating is as simple as completing the 10-question intake form (see here) and describe what you have or will have available.

A Second Harvest representative for your part of the country will reach out and provide personalized service so that nearby non-profits can claim the food. Second Harvest will be providing technical support, regional donation support, and one-on-one outreach in both official languages.

What are you already contributing?: Help build public trust by communicating what you’re already donating to add to the industry total, which will be shared on Canada’s Agriculture Day at the Future of Food Conference on February 11, 2025. All donations made to food security charities and initiatives in Canada in 2024 will be included, and we’ll require this information by January 17, 2025.

If you have questions or are ready to get involved visit DriveAwayHunger.ca.
