REGULATION/POLICY UPDATE
Chlorothalonil Review
The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has announced a special review for the fungicide chlorothalonil that proposes cancellation of all food uses. We have provided aggregate data re: usage for tomatoes collected through Spray Hub. This data is very helpful to demonstrate actual uses to PMRA during their review.
We have also contacted Bonduelle and Hartung seeking chlorothalonil data that we can provide to OFGVA in their efforts on grower’s behalf.

OPVG will be sending a briefing note to PMRA outlining the importance of access to chlorothalonil for our grower members.

2022 Research Update
OPVG funded 31 research projects in 2022 for a total investment of $226,490, which includes Ontario Tomato Research Institute, Ontario Cucumber Research Committee and Pea, Corn, Bean Research Committee funding.
As part funding for the six Bonduelle-based research projects, we are arranging a grower information field event showcasing these trials. Further details will be sent to growers once the date and location for this event are finalized.

COMMUNITY
Pick Ontario First
OPVG is part of an exciting consumer marketing program during the month of August with Fortino’s grocery stores. It’s their Pick Ontario First campaign to salute Ontario farmers and the member-run organizations that ensure Ontario consumers have fresh, delicious, locally-grown products.
We are participating as another way to educate consumers on the benefits and availability of food products made from fresh-picked Ontario processing vegetables. There are several pieces to the campaign, including a flyer, website info, social media and customer emails. Fortino’s will also be featuring Ontario processed vegetable products on their online store, as part of the campaign. Watch for more details in our next newsletter.
RESOURCES
Production Insurance Updates
Please note, it is now the grower’s responsibility
to report field damage to Agricorp as soon as they
see it, or immediately if there is crop left in the field unharvested. Agricorp can be reached at 1-888-247-4999.

Given changes to the machine harvest cucumber agreement, growers are now required to report acres and submit premiums directly to Agricorp, the same process as for hand harvest cucumbers. Once acres are reported to Agricorp's call centre at 1-888-247-4999, an invoice will be generated for your premium and an adjuster will be in contact in the fall to collect yield data.

If you are a new processing vegetable grower or have not received your renewal, please contact Agricorp at 1-888-247-4999. More information on production insurance can be found at www.agricorp.com
